RESEARCH AREAS
My work is mainly focused on the investigation of novel π-extended helical chromophores. These compounds can be considered as new generation polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) as their deviation from planarity offers new properties and possibilities compared to their planar relatives. Furthermore their nature is crowned by their inherent chirality.
In the course of this work it was possible to synthesize an oxa-[7]-helicene extended with hexa-peri-hexabenzocoronene (HBC) subunits as a first member of new family of π-extended helical compounds which we named “superhelicenes”. The main subject is now focused on the extension and investigation of this novel molecular family.
Additionally I am working on the individual subunits of these π-extended PAHs namely helicenes, hexaarylbenzenes (HABs) and HBCs as well as on a side project in porphyrin chemistry.
